Dr Nicholas Argyle

Dr Nicholas Argyle is a highly-respected and qualified Consultant Psychiatrist with extensive experience and expertise in general adult psychiatry, psychosis, refugee and asylum seeker mental health, and personality, affective and anxiety disorders.

Dr Argyle graduated in medicine and completed advanced psychiatry training at the University of Cambridge, obtaining Membership in the Royal College of Psychiatrists. Dr Argyle worked as a Consultant Psychiatrist at Cornell University Medical School in New York and then at Northwick Park Hospital in London in general adult psychiatry. He emigrated to New Zealand to take up a senior role in Auckland, in addition to being an Honorary Senior Lecturer at Auckland University’s Department of Psychiatry. For ten years Dr Argyle was the Clinical Director for Mental Health in Auckland and Director of Area Mental Health Services. He established a number of services including the first program using Dialectic Behavior Therapy in Australasia. More recently he has worked in Australia as a Locum Consultant Psychiatrist in adult psychiatry including acute, community, rehabilitation and medium secure units. Dr Argyle has also worked with IHMS in Australian Immigration Centres as a Consultant Psychiatrist in QLD, Papua New Guinea and Nauru since , leading a mental health team providing clinical care to people with asylum seeker and refugee status.

Dr Argyle is a committed educator having taught in a wide range of settings including all levels of clinical and academic programs, in primary care, the voluntary sector and public arenas. He has lectured and presented at conferences extensively at Universities and Medical Schools in the UK, USA, Russia, Australia and New Zealand. Dr Argyle has been widely published in peer-reviewed scientific journals, as well as authoring two books and many reports for social, statutory, and legal agencies during his career.
